Cost of Study in Germany
As of October 2014, all Universities in Germany will not charge any tuition fees for undergraduate studies for all students including international students. In some Federal States, Universities will charge a semester contribution (about 50 euros) and/or administration fees (about 50 euros). Unlike undergraduate studies, most Master’s or PhD studies in Germany are fee-based. The costs for postgraduate studies are in addition to the enrollment and confirmation fees.

Working During Studies
There are many possibilities to earn money during your studies. You can find job ads on the “Schwarzes Brett” (notice board) on campus or on your university’s website. Knowing German can significantly increase your chances of finding a part-time job. Make sure to comply with the legal regulations stipulating how much you’re allowed to work.

Cost
It is more expensive in some areas than others, with average costs ranging from €350 to €550 per month. Rent is cheaper if you’re in a shared flat (average rent of €180 to 250 per month) or a student hall of residence (€200 per month). The average costs per month, according to Deutsches Studentenwerk, the German National Association for Student Affairs, are: €120 for food; €52 for clothes; €60 for transport; €25 or free for telephone, internet and TV license; €25 for work/study materials, and €68 for leisure activities.
